GRANTS COMMISSION
The University Grants Commission, New Delhi has provided a sustained support
to the development of Canadian Studies in Indian universities. As early as
in 1982 the UGC has accepted the suggestion made by the expert academics to
designate six centres for developing Canadian Studies in the area of Literature,
History, Political Science, Sociology and Economic. Since then it has consistently
sponsored the visits of many India scholars during the past several years
to Canada and also provided funding for holding seminars, conferences and
visits of Canadian scholars to Indian Universities. The first five international
seminars on Canadian Studies organized by the Indian Association for Canadian
Studies from 1985 to 1990 on various topics relating to Canada were solely
funded by the University Grants Commission.
