INDIAN ASSOCIATION FOR CANADIAN STUDIES
XXIII IACS INTERDISCIPLINARY INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CANADIAN STUDIES

DATES: February 23 – 25, 2007

THEME: Cosmopolitanism: Canada and India
HOST: Centre for New Literatures, University of Jammu, Jammu-180006

Cosmopolitanism is an ideology that polarizes the human world of space-time continuum in interesting ways. It as an old praxis, which has continued to colonize and recolonize. It is the result of modern urban architectonics which results in problematizing the polemics of civil space as well as intellectual subaltern condition. Cosmopolitanism, ironically, is the new theoretical model on which all economic, development, business, technological as well socio-political models have begun to alter. It is a new avatar of modernism – this time around under the sign of transnational contracts as well as politics. Linguistic and philosophical discourse too have shown how under the sign of the Cosmopolis, a Western, urban discourse structures the universe differently from that of the non-urban, vernacular and conservative ideologies resulting in certain erasures as well as posits.

The XXIII IACS International Conference to be held in Jammu from 23rd February to 25th February 2006 has for its theme Cosmopolitanism: Canada and India. Papers are welcome on the theme from across disciplines. This year’s Conference envisages not only paper presentations but also discussion forums and Poster presentations.
